Ho, Ho, OH NO!

I can’t predict the future.  And even knowing my kids as well as I do, I still couldn’t tell you how they’re going to react to something like coming face to face with “The Big Man.”  They act SO excited about seeing Santa.  That’s no surprise, right?  But just the sight of him is apparently enough to send my kids into their shells.

We like visiting Santa when he’s at Shriver’s Square Downtown.  They do up the scene so nicely.  A fireplace. A giant comfy chair. A beautiful Christmas Tree.  Oh, don’t forget the people who make balloon animals – or in this case, balloon antlers, wreaths and candy canes.  Plus, depending on the crowd, the helpers have been very understanding about giving you a little time.  Today, we SCORED! Walking into the Square, I actually thought I had the wrong time or date; there was no one around!  But then we walked around the staircase to see Santa sitting in his chair.  We had him all to ourselves!  And then, just like that, my kids were clams.  We took off their coats, walked up slowly, did a little talking and then Santa told the parents how it was going to go.

“Mommy, you come sit on my knee and then back the little boy into your lap,” Santa said.

It was awkward, but whatever.  We did it. “Say cheese” *click* – oh, that’s right, they’re digital cameras now - *beep*

Now it was Alexis’ turn.  She had been watching and had an idea of how it was going to go.

“Okay, Mommy, you come sit on my other knee and then back the little girl into your lap,” Santa said again.

I honestly was trying to be as light as possible.  I didn’t want to be known as the Mommy who broke Santa’s leg. LOL

“Say cheese” *beep*

But deep down inside, the kid in me was screaming “I got to sit on Santa’s lap… TWICE!”

And since we were still the only ones around, we got some more alone time with Santa…. a couple high fives and hand shakes…

Aww. Making Memories.

Do you want antlers, a wreath or a candy cane? – We’ll take two candy canes to go, please.

(Did I mention I got to sit on Santa’s lap TWICE!?!)
