This was THE year! And the weekend the Minnesota Twins played the Chicago Cubs at Target Field couldn’t have come on a better weekend!
The Twins and Cubs play each other every two years, with every other series being in Minnesota, with this being that year. We weren’t able to make it four years ago and have planned since then to come to this series. Then it happened to also fall on the same weekend as my cousin, Sabrina’s, wedding. Double Whammy!
So, the kids went to day care on that Friday and Mom and Dad picked them up and drove them to the Cities after work. Bill and I had left at 2 p.m. for the cities to catch the 7 p.m. game. And afterward, we’d hook up with my parents and the kids at the hotel where we’d stay for the weekend. Worked pretty slick for us! I speak for Bill and I. I had forgotten this would be Noah’s first trip since potty training and he’s learned how to cry wolf about using the potty… so I guess it took them about five hours to get to the Cities.
But check these out! We had fun and I had my new fancy camera! YES!
We had a bit of a double bonus for this game too because no only were BOTH Bill and my favorite teams playing against each other, it was a night game at Target Field. I’ve been waiting since the park opened to take in a game, a beer (even if they do cost $8 each) and the sunset on a great summer night. SCORE!
Okay, so yeah, the Cubs scored once or twice or something. And Joe Mauer wasn’t playing, but Morneau was! Great to see him back in the batter’s box!
And WE won – oh, by “we” I mean MY team, the HOME team! WoHoo!
We were some of the last people to leave the stadium. We don’t get here very often so we took it all in, inside and out. The “glove” was occupied and had a line of people waiting. We decided not to wait and headed for the parking lot. Took us a little bit to remember where we parked. Okay we DIDN’T remember where we parked and just started searching the ramps (yeah, we’re from out of town, can ya tell?!).
Just kept hitting the lock button on my key fob and FOUND IT! Time to go find the kiddos!
P.S. The trip to the stadium and from the stadium to our hotel made us want to throw our Tom Tom into the Mississippi River. It sent us in circles when we hit traffic (“I’ve found a shorter route for you,” the voice said. She took us off of I-394 to HWY 100 north, then get off the HWY, turn around ILLEGALLY and get back on HWY 100 south back to 394 where we got off. SERIOUSLY!?!). Then on our way to the hotel, it didn’t save our change to the menu and took us on every side street to avoid highways to get to St. Paul. And when we got within blocks of our hotel, detours for construction took us to a parking lot at the State Capitol with no way to get out. That was a 45+ minute drive!
