Fourth Of July!

The Fourth of July isn’t just Independence Day for us… It’s also Brent’s Birthday!  So we like to really have fun!  This year, we planned a backyard “monkey balls” tournament.  But first, we had to wait a bit for it to cool off.  It was a HOT day over the lunch hour and early afternoon.  The kids found ways to entertain themselves inside - “drag me, Daddy!”

IMG_0428 IMG_0432We got Claire to make some funny faces.  She’s at that stage where her expressions are just priceless if you can capture them on camera.

And we got the three kiddos (Tristan was with his dad for the holiday) with the birthday boy!

IMG_0443 Uncle Brent asked Noah for some help unwrapping his presents… so Noah tried to break the strings with his teeth.  Inside, Brent got a Crock Pot!

Noah’s also apparently a gymnast wannabe.  He loves it when Uncle Brent tests his balance skills and has pretty good form too!

IMG_0466 Time to head outside!  We drew teams, order and pulled out the chairs for spectators.  May the best team win!

IMG_0491  IMG_0538 IMG_0543 IMG_0495IMG_0548 IMG_0552And since we don’t own a giant jungle gym with swings, tree house and twisting tube slide (*wink*), the kids decided to turn the stairs into a climbing apparatus.  What a couple of goofballs!  But hey, they took this GREAT picture for me!
IMG_0506 IMG_0557 Brent got to join the “30’s Club” this year!  After some cake and ice cream, we pulled out the fireworks and headed out front.  There were loud ones the kids liked and others they didn’t but Noah also wouldn’t trust us to not touch the hot part of a sparkler until he learned why the hard way.  Poor little guy’s fingers got an owie.  (BTW, the ice pack inserts for drink bottles work great for kids to grab onto when they get an owie on their palms) But it wasn’t a problem for long – Bill got more fireworks going and he seemed to forget all about it.

P.S. – The best team did win… Dad and I took the championship game.  It was a nail-biter and was a close one at times but we were able to finish strong. :o)
