Pickin’ Pumpkins

After the Festival of Bands, we headed over to the Garden of Weedin’.  It’s this great little vegetable farm on the South Dakota-Iowa border that we’ve visited the past couple of years for our pumpkins.  They have a huge patch and are very organized in allowing you to go pick your own pumpkins.  They’re usually $1 each and are all you can pick.  But this year, the crop is a little later than usual and because of the numbers, they instituted $2 per pumpkin and two pumpkins per person.

Well, Carissa came with us so we were able to get ten! We pick a couple for carving, of course, and then use a couple to decorate the front of the house.

On a sad note, we didn’t get to fully enjoy our pumpkins.  Some punk kids stole five of them from our displays a few weeks later.  I had heard some noises alongside our house in the middle of the night and thought it might have been the neighbor girls looking for their cat.  But no, it was pumpkin thieves.  At least we didn’t find them smashed anywhere and we hadn’t carved them yet, so I hope they got put to good use.
